Título

FEMINICIDES IN MANAUS, AMAZONAS, BRAZIL (2018-2020)

Introdução

Feminicide is the last and maximum manifestation of violence against women in domestic or family contexts, disparagement or discrimination on grounds of the female gender (Brazil, 2015).

Objetivos

Verify the occurrence of feminicides in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil, in the period from 2018 to 2020.

Parte experimental

Cross-sectional, retrospective and quantitative study, conducted at the city's Forensic Medical Institute, from July to November 2021. The following documents were consulted: Police Report, Death Certificate and Autopsy. For the classification of confirmed cases, those who presented the crime “feminicide” or “homicide (domestic violence)” were selected, while for the suspects were female homicide at home and/or those committed by an intimate partner. The data were organized and analyzed by the Microsoft Excel 2019 program.

Resultados e Discussões

151 cases of feminicide were estimated, 136 (90,1%) suspected and 15 (9,9%) confirmed. In 2018, 39 (25,8%) were registered, 61 (40,4%) in 2019 and 51 (33,8%) in 2020. The annual average of cases was 50,3, of which 45,3 were suspected and 5 confirmed. In Brazil, from 2016 to 2020, feminicides grew by 45.3%, from 929 to 1350, respectively. In Manaus, in the three years studied, the increase was 23.5%. In 2020, the feminicide rate in Manaus was approximately 4.4/100,000 women, above the national average (Brazilian Public Security Forum, 2022).

Conclusões

There was a high occurrence of femicide. The registration systems of the health and public safety sector have gaps, especially in the qualification of the crime and its motivations. There is therefore a risk of underestimating the number of occurrences.
